Tritons Fall in Season Opener to GCU
February 12-13 was the season opener for the Tritons, after a year off due to the pandemic. GCU took all three games of the series, but the scores do not represent the closeness of the games early on.
In one of the games, the strong pitching of GCU shut down the Triton offense, holding them to 11 hits in three games. Notable players were Kyle Young and Finn Daecher. Kyle went 2-7 at the plate with a towering double to left field that one-hopped the fence. Finn went 1-3 with a single while managing to throw 4 innings with 4 strikeouts on the mound. Mike Robichaux threw four innings, gave up 3 runs, and struck out six in his appearance.
Overall, the games started controlled for the Tritons, then broke out of hand later in the game. A couple of highpoints for the Tritons during the series included doubles for Jake Malloy, Kyle Young, and Dart Ramirez. Dart also had 5 stolen bases in the series.
The Tritons hope to bounce back in their next series against ASU, coming up on February 26-27 at home. Come out to support your fellow Tritons this season!
