Tritons end drought against USD with 4-2 statement win
After failing to beat USD last year, the Tritons went into this game looking to extend their league record to 2-0. Once again, the Tritons proved to be in control of the game within the first 15. UCSD’s press was working very well, as USD were forced to send long balls that the Triton center backs would eat up. Forward Michael Boychuk would open up the scoring, roofing a grounded cross into the top of the net. Defensive midfielder Jorge Gomez would slot a glorious penalty kick earned by Fullback Koosha Jadbabaei’s fantastic run. USD would earn and convert a penalty of their own to keep the match close at 2-1 Tritons.
In the second half, UCSD really began to pull away possession-wise. UCSD’s attack would prove to be too much for USD, as constant pressure would lead to the third penalty kick of the game which mid Will Ross would convert to put the Tritons up 3-1.
Midfielder Lucas Venetoulias would also bag a 4th goal for UCSD and although USD would convert their second penalty of the game, it wasn’t enough to mount a comeback. The Tritons would end up winning the game 4-2 for their second win of the weekend.
