Tritons Arrive in Irvine and Secure Road Win
UCSD Tritons traveled to UC Irvine this past Sunday to take on the Anteaters (4-1). Since the Anteaters had a limited bench due to several injuries, both teams agreed to play a man down for all four quarters. The first few minutes saw the Tritons get a couple quick goals on the board, and Q1 ended 6-0. However, in the second quarter, Irvine made a strong effort and almost came ahead which ended 3-2. Consequently, draw controls switched back and forth between the teams. Despite the hurdle, the Tritons cleaned it up in the fourth and secured the win with a final score of 16-5. Impressively, third year Captain Delainey Iles was the top-scorer with 5 goals and 1 assist. Other scorers included third year Gillian Husovsky (3 goals), second year Sophia Terenik (2 goals/2 assists), second year Heather Hirsch (2 goals), second year Kayla Tracy (1 goal/1 assist), third year Captain Ellen Jurgens (1 goal), third year Sarah Brown (1 goal), and second year Isabel Wang (1 goal). Freshman Goalkeeper Lindsay Rubin had 6 saves out of the 11 shots on goal. The Tritons look forward to two games this weekend—including Sunday’s 3/6 away game against the undefeated league opponent CSU San Marcos (6-0).
