Tritonman Collegiate Draft Legal & Classic Sprint Triathlon
On February 11 and 12, our team headed down to beautiful Mission Bay, bright and early, to get ready for our annual race: the one and only Tritonman. Despite the 3am wake up call, each team member brought positive energy and good vibes as they helped set up the myriad components that we needed for our race to run smoothly. And the work didn't just start the morning of; our mighty Triton triathletes worked tirelessly for months to get this race prepared. We coordinated permits, vendors, sponsorships, equipment rentals...the list goes on! But our hard work paid off: we had a record number of athletes competing, and received innumerable compliments praising our event from racers and spectators alike. Overall, Tritonman 2023 was a huge success, and we thank not only everyone behind the scenes , but also everyone who came to our event!
Jacob Wolf of Revelle College raced the Draft Legal race on Saturday morning. Though the field was competitive, Wolf dominated on the swim, with a speedy time of 12:07. Pushing past flying elbows and rogue kicks, he soared through the water with ease and raced into transition. Hopping on the bike, Wolf got into a fast-paced pack, and "pushed himself to the limit" he comments. Off the bike, Wolf charged into the run, and finished with enthusiasm. For our draft legal women, Joanna Coker and Makenna Adams also had a great race experience. Coker, a seasoned triathlete and inspiration to all, had a beautiful swim, and was undeterred by the chaos of the start. Adams, on the other hand, shares, "that was the messiest swim start I've ever seen. Everyone was going in like Spartan Phalanx formation or something. Couldn't get around anyone." Despite the initial snafu, Adams managed to get into a pack for the bike leg, and had a "breakthrough drafting experience." Coker finished with an outstanding time of 1:10, and Adams pulled off a Tritonman PR with a time of 1:16. In the classic race on Saturday, athletes Dom Miller, senior, and Mia Chang, sophomore, brought fiery Triton spirit to the course. Miller had an impressive race all around, with an especially exceptional run, finishing with a time of 21 minutes. Chang, in her first triathlon as a Triton, excelled throughout all three legs of the race, and finished with high spirits and a smile. Great job, Tritons!
