Triton Ladies Back in Action: First League Tourney, U of A
On the last sunny weekend of February, our Triton ladies made their way to their very first league tournament of the season at the University of Arizona. Our Triton ladies immediately demonstrated their strength by setting the tone from the moment they entered the water.
Our UCSD A team quickly asserted their dominance the first day in the water by winning their first two games by a large margin, SDSU B (18-3) and GCU (12-3). However in their third game of the day, in a close and intense game against ASU A (5-9) our ladies fell a bit short. Despite the loss, they demonstrated their strength by pushing through till the very end, coming out with an incredible 8 ejections drawn, demonstrating just how skillful of a team they are. On the final day, our Triton ladies came back on beast mode, showing just how powerful they are when executing communication, shots, and defense. They came back with an incredible win against SDSU A (9-6). Their defense and offense truly shined, with a total of 10 steals and 5 ejections drawn to help shut down the Aztecs offense. Gaia Hinds came out on top with a whopping total of 16 goals, while the rest of the Triton team also showed their skill as an offense by collectively putting goals into the cage. Lian Lumada, our goalie, came out with a solid 20 blocks. The entire A team shined in their first league tournament, demonstrating how fluidly they play as a team and their ability to shut down teams with their defense of steel.
Our UCSD B team also shined in this tournament. They put up an incredible fight against every team they played. They fell a bit short to U of A (5-7) but showed their skill by drawing multiple ejections on U of A, 6. They pushed through and played a solid game against the tough opponents ASU A (0-15) and SDSU B (3-11). The next day they came back to show their strength as a team, securing their first win of the season against ASU B (9-5). The B team played phenomenally and have continued to show their growth as a young and new team. Hanna Bush came in with 6 goals, Nelly was a close second with 5 goals. The team played amazing and pushed through the entire tournament, never giving up and always working together.
Our Triton ladies showed their phenomenal sportsmanship the entire weekend and consistently pushed and supported each other. Stay tuned to hear about their next league tournament, in which the Triton ladies will be playing on their home turf! Make sure to come out and support on April 9th and 10th!
