On January 27th, 2018, UCSD Club Swim hosted our first annual UCSD Club Swimming Invitational with the support of a sunny and warm San Diego day at our home pool! Five fantastic teams from around the West Coast arrived and suited up for what would be the ultimate duel in the pool. USC, UCI, UCLA, Cal Poly SLO and University of Oregon brought their best and fastest swimmers to our beautiful Triton Pool to be matched up with our own brilliant swimmers and they were not disappointed. Throughout the whole meet, Cal Poly SLO and UCSD were head to head, constantly duking it out for the coveted 1st place. Cal Poly’s women’s relay team started the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay, but UCSD’s men took it back that 1st place win in their own 200 Medley Relay. First off, we got fantastic 1st place swims from Ryan Lee in the 200 Freestyle, the 50 Fly and the 100 Breaststroke. In addition, we had an amazing 2nd place finish from Hanna Landry in the 50 Breaststroke and a 1st place finish from one of our new swimmers Stacey Ma! In addition, Eric Livingston, another new swimmer, had some excitingly close swims with a 1st place finish in both the 100 Fly and 100 Free. Special honor goes to our excellent and only men’s backstroker, Marcus Braga for sweeping all of his backstroke events: the 200 Backstroke, the 100 Backstroke and the 50 Backstroke. To top of such a fantastic meet, we had our Men’s team sweep the 400 Free Relay with another 1st place finish. Overall, our home advantage shone because we ended up with our first ever 1st place overall finish at a meet to make it one of our most memorable! It was an amazing meet that cannot be forgotten!
