It was a beautiful Sunday morning as the Tritons kicked off their fourth game of the Spring League Season, this time facing off against a new opponent, Northern Arizona University (NAU). Having found the net six times the day before, the UC San Diego women continued their ruthless scoring streak against Northern Arizona University. The game started off a little slow with the Tritons on their heels as the NAU players came full force onto the backline, hungry for the first goal of the match. Luckily, the Triton backline was successful in shutting down every attempt and after the first five to ten minutes of the first half the Tritons found their groove and dominated the play. An initially cagey and physical affair evolved into a one-sided goal fest, with Makenna Gandara hammering the ball off an unfortunate defender for a deflected own goal. Gandara continued her role as supplier with a delicious cross that Natalie Maloney tidily finished. Twinkle-toed Allison Long danced past the defense on two occasions and finished calmly twice, while Cynthia Ruiz walked the ball into the net with equal composure for a 5-0 lead at halftime. Honorable mentions go to Miriam Bell who hit a banger inside the eighteen-yard box but unfortunately the ball was a little too high to add to the score line. Ever merciful, the Tritons slowed down their breakneck scoring pace for the remaining 45 minutes. A goal originated from Kristen Wong scrambling down the length of the pitch and allowing McKenzie Kirn to ruffle the back of the net with a powerful strike. Hannah Hurd was the final architect of the day, producing a bamboozling pass that allowed Gandara to round out the scoring to 7-0. The UC San Diego women collected their well-deserved points and wished their opponents a safe ride home. The Tritons play San Diego State University this Thursday, March 8th at San Diego State at 8 pm.
