On Saturday April 15, the UC San Diego (UCSD) Women’s Club team traveled to San Bernardino to take on the Cal State San Bernardino (CSUSB) Coyotes. The Tritons aimed to keep their undefeated league streak, but they knew it would be a difficult task in the 80 degree heat with only 13 players due to injuries and music festivals. Regardless, the game started off with UC San Diego dominating right away. Freshman Cynthia Ruiz gave the Tritons a 1-0 lead 10 minutes in, with a great finish from far out, over the hands of the San Bernardino goalkeeper. Not long after, the Tritons received a free kick outside of the box taken by junior Emma Schoenthal. After rebounding, Ruiz slotted the ball into the goal to give the Tritons a 2-0 lead going into half time. The second half proved difficult with tired legs and the burning sun, but after several near misses on goal, freshman Tori Woo received the ball outside the 18-yard box and despite having 2 girls nearly foul her, managed to get back up and perfectly place a driven ball to the bottom left corner of the goal. The Tritons finished the game with a 3-0 win, and an 8-0 league record with one more game to go. Catch the reigning league champs in their last game of the season on Wednesday, April 18 at Sports Deck against the infamous San Diego State University where the Tritons will dedicate the game to their graduating seniors.
