    The Battle of the UCs

In their first league game of the year, the Tritons faced off against the Gauchos. Both teams played their hearts out on Warren field, which was a bit slippery after all the rain. You would not realize from watching them, but a third of Tritons starting lineup were rookies. First-timer, Kelsey Racette, led the team as their scrumhalf, directing the plays of the game and scoring her first try. Rookie, Leina Hutcherson, who played 8-man for the first time, had a beautiful breakaway past the other team, and also scored her first try. Not to mention the rest of the forwards, who time and time again, pushed through their opponents with their powerful tackles. The backs were a solid unit, passing the ball through each of their hands as they burst through the defense. Emily Brown and Sara Tsai also broke through the defensive lines with incredible speed. The forwards and backs worked in unity to draw the defense in and take advantage of the gaps, advancing through the field. The whole team communicated clearly, kept energy high, and showed that they were a force to be reckoned with, winning 32-15. As #3 Mack Caldwell says, “It’s always a beautiful day to play rugby.”
