SDSU Invitational Tournament
After a short warmup at UCSD’s Northview Tennis Courts, UCSD Club Tennis’s A-Team and B-Team traveled to SDSU’s Aztec Tennis Center to participate in their home invitational tournament. With two matches planned for both of UCSD’s teams on the first day, UCSD-A started their first round against Cal Poly SLO-B with a solid win 28-15 with 6-0 and 6-1 wins from Sebastian Smith and Tanya Nanda, respectively. Meanwhile, UCSD-B put out a great effort in an 18 -29 loss against UCSF-A, especially from Pallavi and Julie in Women’s Doubles (5-6) and Nika in Women’s Singles (6-5). After the first round of matches, which finished around 3:00 pm, the famished two teams took a quick break and ordered Board & Brew for an early dinner to reset themselves. Following dinner, UCSD B had a tough match against the extremely strong USC B team. Meanwhile, UCSD A had a solid 27-19 victory over SDSU White. In particular, Tanya Nanda had a great 6-1 win in her singles match. Following the last match of the day, both teams went to Taco Stand for dinner and to prepare for the next day.
The second day of the competition started at 9 am for both teams. UCSD B started with a narrow victory over USD A, coming down to the last match, where Mathew Powley and Pallavi won their mixed doubles match. Meanwhile, UCSD A had a comfortable 30-8 win over UCI B. Sunny Gupta won an amazing singles match 6-1. The second matches of the day started immediately after the first finished, with UCSD B defeating Fullerton B and UCSD A losing a tight match to CMC A 24-27, with victories in men's and women's doubles. SDSU provided pizza for lunch during the 2nd match. Additionally, both UCSD teams ordered Jamba Juice after the second match. With that, UCSD B was done for the day, while UCSD A had one more match against USD A, which was won in a solid 25-18 fashion. The team decided to go to Tajima Ramen afterwards for dinner, wrapping up the weekend of competition.
