Men’s Soccer Suffers a Disappointing Loss in the First Game of Regionals
UC San Diego Men’s Club Soccer looked to start off Regionals with a convincing win on Saturday, October 31st, to secure a bid to Nationals. After a tentative opening UC San Diego conceded the first goal of the game as Cal Poly ran down UC San Diego’s left wing and played in a cross which was unfortunately directed into the net by a Cal Poly forward. Coming out of halftime down 1-0 UC San Diego came back ferociously within the first couple of minutes. A tight combination between the three UC San Diego midfielders saw Ethan “The All American” Ham play Quinn “Showtime” Frantzen into the box. Quinn fought off a defender and placed a beautiful ball into the far corner. Now tied 1-1, UC San Diego forgot that there was still 35 minutes left to play and allowed Cal Poly to score 5 goals in the second half. Pepe “Paella” Tovar scored for UC San Diego off of some beautiful one and two touch build-up with the final ball coming from Francisco “Smiles” Salinas. Sadly it was not enough and UC San Diego fell 6-2 to Cal Poly and are no longer undefeated.
