Men’s Soccer finishes the season undefeated with a convincing win against USD
On Sunday, UC San Diego Men’s Club Soccer wrapped up its undefeated season with a 6-2 win at home against USD. The Tritons opened the scoring with a brilliant pass inside from Kazu “Andrea” Otani to Jon “Laurel” Clausen who finished the move into the side of the net. Minutes later, Kazu released Quinn Frantzen with a cute give and go, and Quinn played the ball across for Firas Eid who slotted the ball into the net from point blank range. Garen “Injured All Season” Arabian took a corner kick midway through the second half and Francisco “Disco” Salinas rose majestically into the air to head the ball into the net. Quinn Frantzen was taken down in the penalty box and made up for the PK he missed against USD in the last meeting by placing the ball to the left of the keeper. The Tritons went in to half up 4-0. In the second half the Tritons gave up two soft goals because of mental lapses, but responded to the adversity by putting in 2 more goals to seal the game. Kenan “Daddy Longlegs” Mesic pulled a triple sombrero and had his shot saved by the keeper, but Kazu Otani was there to pick up the scraps. Jon Clausen picked up his brace in the dying embers of the match when Firmin Dingue played him into a 1 on 1 with the keeper. UCSD heads to Regionals as the #1 seed out of the Southern Conference and look to qualify for Nationals.
