This past weekend the UCSD Women’s Club Rugby team put on their annual tournament, Scrum by the Sea. 16 different teams from across the nation competed in both competitive and friendly brackets. UCSD kicked off their first game of the tournament against Fresno State and won the match 36-10. The second match was against Humboldt State, where UCSD got off to a slow start, going down 7-0 after the first play of the game. Fortunately, the team swiftly took over the game and ended up winning 33-12. The win against Humboldt put UCSD into the semi-finals on Sunday morning against Humboldt State, who they played the day before. The game was physical and competitive, and the Tritons came out on top making it to the finals for the second year in a row! They went on to face UC Davis—an experienced and fast team with a different style of play. The Tritons put the first try on the board, but ended up falling 7-5. The UCSD Women’s Club Rugby team finished in second place and are looking forward to the rest of the season.
