Tritons Sweep Double Header
El Cajon, CA- The UC San Diego Roller Hockey Club faced off against the University of San Diego Toreros this past weekend, November 7, for a double header regular season matchup.
In the first game of the day, the Tritons came out flying scoring three goals and taking an early 3-1 lead thanks to goals by Dan Rey, Grant Marcy and Patrick Salmas. The second period was a much more evenly fought battle with just one goal scored by each team. The UC San Diego goal marked sophomore Adrian Garcia Badaracco’s first career college goal. With a score of 4-2 entering the third period, the defensive battle continued, despite the Tritons’ constant pressure. The attack was too much for the Toreros who weren’t able to muster up enough offense to tie the game and UC San Diego would take the win 4-2.
After a short break, the two teams were right back at it. This time the Toreros came out flying, looking to pull out a win in the double header. USD outshot the Tritons 20-9 in the first, but UC San Diego was able to squeak out a 2-1 lead. Early in the second period junior Dylan Shives scored to give the Tritons a 3-1 lead, a lead they would hold for the rest of the frame. In the third period, the Patrick Salmas show began. The second year transfer netted 2 goals to give him a hat trick in the game and cement a 5-2 victory for the Tritons.
The UC San Diego Roller Hockey Club hopes to continue their winning ways on November 21 when they head to Huntington Beach to play their next three games of the season. UC San Diego will battle against University of Arizona, Cal Poly Pomona, and Sonoma State at 9AM, 12PM, and 2PM respectively.
