On November 19, the UC San Diego Dancesport Team traveled to Columbus Ohio to compete at the annual dancesport national competition, the Ohio Star Ball. The 15 member nationals team competed in formation dancing, the main focus of the UC San Diego Dancesport Team. Team members who competed at nationals are the leaders Fernando Cortez, Navid Roueenfar, Bharathan Balaji, Tokio Shimamura, Viet Nguyen, Joan Valls, and Simon Huang as well as followers Paula Anzenberg, Sydney Camille, Lissette Lozano, Kaya Ishijima, Kim Ng, Katrina Kennedy, Laurel Wilkinson, and Midori Schardein. The team placed 2nd overall, receiving 1st placed marks from three out of the seven judged. The winning team received four 1st place marks. While UC San Diego Dancesport has an after class program a few nights per week and many of those competing at nationals only started dancing last year, the winning team is made up of more experienced dancers and their school offers a ballroom dance major. Still, 2nd place at the national competition is a significant accomplishment for the UC San Diego Dancesport team.
