UC San Diego Caps Their Trip to Regionals with a Dominant Win Over Cal State Long Beach
Following a disappointing loss to Cal Poly, the UC San Diego Men’s Club Soccer team rebounded against Cal State Long Beach on November 1st with a convincing 3-0 win. Pepe “El Flaco” Tovar opened the scoring after being played in by Kazu “Andrea” Otani. Tovar turned and was somehow left alone 6 yards from the Long Beach goal. The Spaniard calmly placed the ball into the goal to put UC San Diego up 1-0. UC San Diego went up 2-0 after Garen “League of Legends” Arabian was taken down in the box. Emil Kirov stepped up and blasted the penalty home. The Tritons should have put up another 5 goals on Long Beach in the second half, but sadly the visiting team took their foot off the gas. Kenan Mesic finished the game off with a gorgeous tap at the far post off a corner kick. A 3-0 win ended a bittersweet Regional Tournament because the Tritons did not place high enough to compete in the final. And a special shout out must be given to the defenders, Jonathan “Kevin Garnett” Salmeron, Jaime “The Hulk” Ayala, Henry Cullen, Guhan Sundar, Carl “Chop City” Dyer, Mike “Bonebreaker” Ranis, and our goalkeeper “Big Richard” Vik Renduchintala for the first shutout of the season!
