National Championships - Salt Creek, Dana Point

Salt Creek delivered some fun left-handers for the final event of the 2021/2022 season. The Men’s Short Board division kicked off at 7 a.m. with six of our members in the water. Noah Brown and Ryan Parkes utilized their goofy-foot approaches to make it past the second round and clinch two quarterfinal results. Next, our Women’s Shortboard team did not disappoint: both Kalohe Danbara and Makena Burke advanced straight to the final after placing first in their Round 1 heats. In the longboard division, Trent Webster advanced through his first-round heat to secure a spot in his first final of the season. He displayed beautiful nose-riding and drop-knee cutbacks to score an eight-point ride in the final and finish in 3rd place. As for the Women’s final, Makena started off with an 8.67, and after a scary collision with a free surfer, backed it up with an 8.10 to clinch her first national title. Not to be outdone by her teammate, Kalohe executed strong backhand slashes to surf her way to 2nd place. Due to the strength of these individual performances, the team was ecstatic to place 3rd overall in the 2022 Interscholastic National Championships.
