Tritons Sweep Wildcats to Put Season Back on Track
Your Tritons got back to their winning ways this past weekend, on March 5th, by scoring 42 runs and sweeping a conference series against University of Arizona.
In the first game, senior Andrew Hinkle took the mound and threw a complete game in five innings with four strikeouts and limiting the Wildcats to only two runs in the first inning and then none after that. The offense came to life after a quiet first inning with big days from junior Nick Walsh, who went 3 for 4 with 4 RBI’s and 2 stolen bases, senior Shane Sudsbury, who went 3 for four with 2 runs scored, 3 RBI’s, and a double, and senior Andrew Hinkle, who went 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored, 2 RBI’s, a home run, and 2 doubles. Senior Tommy Valles also added a home run and senior Nathan Domico and junior Bobby Young also added two hits each. All this scoring led to twelve runs and a ten-run mercy rule after five innings. The Tritons won the first game 12-2.
In the second game, junior Yousef Koutnik took the mound and threw a dominating performance in which he held the Wildcats scoreless with only three hits and four strikeouts. The Tritons were only winning 1-0 going into the fourth inning but then the offense exploded thanks to a home run from Shane Sudsbury who went 2 for 2 with 2 RBI’s and a run scored. Good days from sophomore Jordan Kassem, who went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored, a double, and a stolen base, senior Patrick Levin, who had two hits including a run scored, a double, and an RBI, and Bobby Young who also had two hits with a run scored, a double, and an RBI. The Tritons won the second game 11-0.
In the final game, junior Kevin Nieh took the mound and had a little more trouble after cruising through the first three innings. He ended up giving up six runs but kept his team in the game as the Tritons kept fighting back to keep up with the slugfest. Junior Shane Aldas came in with a crucial bases loaded no-outs situation in the fifth inning and held the Wildcats to just one run that helped the Tritons win back the momentum. Aldas then pitched two more solid innings before turning it over to Jordan Kassem in the eighth inning and then Nathan Domico who closed out the game in the ninth inning. On the offensive side, freshman Seamus Beyerle had a big day by going 3 for 4 with 4 runs scored with a home run and 2 RBI’s. Senior Matt Davidson also had a big day by going 4 for 6 with 2 home runs, 4 RBI’s and a double. Nathan Domico also went 3 for 6 with two runs and a double, Andrew Hinkle went 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored, 2 doubles and an RBI, Shane Sudsbury kept up his hot hitting by going 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and a double, and Bobby Young went 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI’s. All this hitting led to 19 runs scored and a final score of 19-14.
