Race Report #2
It’s been awhile but it looks like we got another race report partners. For this race weekend our athletes had the pleasure of being up in Mammoth for Martin Luther King Jr Weekend, a three day weekend normally blacked out for us Ikon base pass plebs. The lords at USCSA had other ideas though and hooked our athletes up with the race passes fatty style and our boys and gals could shred the night away. While this weekend might already sound out of the ordinary with the extra day of skiing, the races and the blackout, what if I told that it gets even gnarlier? The hucklords who made the journey up north on Thursday got to experience the first powder day of the new year. The depth of the pow may not have been snorkel worthy but our athletes made the most of it and blasted through the wild terrain with no regard to human life.
With minds fully frothed out, the events of the weekend could begin. With an extra day on the weekend, our athletes competed in 4 different spicy events: Slalom, GS, Rail jam and Slopestyle. Our shredders started the weekend off with a gnarly rail jam and GS day. This weekend was the first rail jam of the season. For those unacquainted with the rail jam event, there are a few features set up (usually a rail, box and barrel) and the goal of the athlete is to get the highest score they can on each individual feature. Our boys and girls are certifiable maniacs but even the rail jam can be quite gnarly for most of them, but they still tossed their bodies down the course. Starting off with our lady skiers, we had a truly impressive showing. We had 5, count that, 5 women finish in the top 10 for rail jam this weekend: Mia, Kathy, Polina, Sammy and Alyssa finishing 3rd-7th (in that respective order). For our female snowboarders, we again had a solid showing with Wendy, Hope and Yayi placing 7th, 8th and 9th. For our male skiers we had Owen, Beaver, Sebastian, Dylan, James and Ivan placing 3rd, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th. If you get a chance, scope the video if Owen hucking himself into a rail repeatedly with too little success. Rounding up the rail jam with our male boarders we unfortunately didn’t have anyone place top 10 but oh Lordy were these guys giving it their all or something. Once our athletes shook off the biffs and bails from rail jam, they were ready for the GS. Let’s scope these results, in reverse, starting with our male skiers and boarders who sadly couldn’t crack the top ten for this event. For our female boarders, I assumed they absolutely crushed it, but sadly no results have been posted so I got no clue what actually happened. Our female skiers were charging as well and we had Mia come in at 10th place, securing some tasty points. With the race day completed, our skiers and boarders could blast around the mountain and end the night with some relaxation and studying. Wow – the model student athletes. With a full night of studying done, our athletes could tackle the next hurdle: the super spicy slalom event. Our boarders absolutely destroyed this event with Yayi for our ladies blasting into 2nd place, and for our dudes Amir sliced and diced his way into a slick 3rd place, absolutely destroyed. Our skiers might not have placed as high, but that didn’t keep them from getting a hell of a lot of folk into that top 10. For our female skiers we had Mia, Polina, and Sammy locking in at 5th, 8th and 10th. The male skiers struggled to keep up again sadly with no one squeaking into the top 10, but we did have Beaver knocking on the door. With that race day finished, normally the weekend would be done, but oh no, not this weekend. 3 DAY WEEKEND dingus, more days, more action, more races, more gnarliness.
The final race of the weekend is the Slopestyle event, the first of the season. Slopestyle is an event where there are a number of features set up where each run through the course is scored (2 runs) and the highest score of the runs counting. Our skiers scorched their way through the course and landed themselves some tasty results on both the male and female side. For our guy skiers we had Beaver, Ivan and Sebastian locking into the 4th, 5th and 6th spots on the standings. Our female skiers, Kathy, Mia, Sammy and Polina slotted into 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th, solid showings all around. For our boarders, our ladies absolutely slapped the competition. I might’ve talked up the previous results but Sheeeeesh these girls are wild. We had Yayi, Savannah, Hope, Steph, Tiffany, Cristina, and Hedy acquiring 1st (bruh), 2nd (dude), 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th, let’s get that bread. The male boarders may not have had quite the same showing as we only had Oliver sneak in the top 10 with a 10th place, but those boys were out there grabbing them grabs and greasing them jibbers. Well there we have it.
MLK weekend in the bag, some serious results snatched. A weekend of good results but also some seriously spicy snow. I’ll see you lovely readers next time once our riders complete their recon mission into the forsaken land out east, Arizona. Major yikes, see ya.
