Friday, January 31st we left San Diego for a 6 hour drive to Tucson, Arizona. Waking up after a long day of travelling, we were ready to take on the women of the University of Arizona. Unfortunately, the game ended with a score of 19-31 (UCSD-UofA). We’re taking this match, our first loss of the season, as a learning opportunity. We fought hard for those 80 minutes, but this match was a turning point for the team as we must use it to work even harder and improve our game even more. We still have 4 games left in the season, and we’re here to get better.

The match started off well, with a magnificent try from our Fullback, Shannon Pinon, running the full length of the field. However, U of A quickly caught up with a try 6 minutes later. For the first 50 minutes of the game, it was a riveting back and forth between tries - with every try we made, Arizona matched us in under 5 minutes. The last 30 minutes of the game were tough on our team, both mentally and physically, and Arizona scored two more tries by the end of the full 80 minutes.

We were sad to experience this loss, however, we are prepared to learn from this game and continue to improve as the season goes on. Every day is a learning day and we are keeping our heads up.

    Tries scored by:

    Shannon Pinon

    Megan Lloyd (x2)

Forward of the match: Chloe Belman (8 Man)

Back of the match: Chel Estrella (Scrumhalf)
