UC San Diego Women’s Rugby vs UCSB Women’s Rugby
This weekend, January 16th, the UC San Diego Women’s Rugby Club travelled to Santa Barbara for the first league game of the New Year. The team got off to a slow start within the first ten minutes, but went on to put on an offensive clinic. The UC San Diego ruggers kept UCSB out of the try zone for most of the game. The speed and intensity of UC San Diego’s offense proved to be too much to handle for the UCSB rugby team. After the first half the score was 40-0 in San Diego’s favor. UC San Diego’s backs Jaylin Stevenson, Teigan MacDonald, Di-An Duong, Alex Becket, and Sylvia Aguilar all scored at least one try each. Team Captain Erika Matczenko gave the team the first try of the game and spearheaded the team effort. During the Second half the women kept up the intensity, but let Santa Barbara into the try zone twice. The final score was 80-12 in the Tritons favor and this gave them their second league win. The UC San Diego Women’s Rugby Club will face off against CSU Northridge next and are hoping to keep their record undefeated.
