Tritons Extend Winning Streak to 3
The Tritons began their first of two contests this weekend against College of the Canyons, whom they just recently faced off against on the road. The Tritons were on the board first as Captain, Dylan Shives scored four minutes into the first period. The Triton’s lead didn’t last long, however, as the Cougars tied the game up less than a minute later. The game remained tied until late in the first, when Tritons Dylan Shives, Liam Jablonski, Aaron Gunn, and Zane Curdes scored 4 goals in 3 minutes to put the Tritons up 5-1. The Tritons never let the Cougars score after their first, and players Dan Rey, Jared Kim, and Patrick Salmas each scored in the last two periods, while Zane Curdes and Liam Jablonski scored their second of the night. After the final buzzer rang, the Tritons won in convincing fashion by a final score of 10-1.
The next evening, the Triton faced off against the UC Davis Aggies. The Tritons had their work cut out for them, as they had a small roster of 7 skaters, only half compared to the Aggies. The Tritons scored early, as rookie, Liam Jablonski put on past the Aggie goaltender just over a minute into the first. With two minutes left, the Tritons go up 2-0 as Dylan Shives scores his first of the night. Early in the second, Shives scored again to give the Tritons a 3-0, but one minute later, the Aggies cut the deficit to 2, making it 3-1. Liam Jablonski answered back by scoring two more goals for the Tritons before the period ended, and the Tritons were up 5-1. Early in the third period, the Aggies scored to bring the score to 5-2 but back to back goals by Jablonski, for his fourth, and Shives, for his third extended the Tritons lead. The Aggies would score once more, before Shives would score two goals late, and the Tritons would win 9-3. The Tritons have started hot in the second half of the season with Goaltender Peter Simonsen averaging 3.25 goals against per game.
