For the first time in nearly 2 years, the Lady Tritons hosted a tournament at home in RIMAC AUX Gym. ‘Twas a beautiful day to play some volleyball, especially after a stormy Friday afternoon (Note: We play indoors but it really was a nice day and deserves some attention).
Seeing as this was Regional Tournament #2, all teams had already played each other a couple weeks prior, so they were well familiarized and ready to get their volley on. UCSD started off strong and earned their first W of the day against UCI. Their defense came in clutch during that match thanks in large part to Emma “Master Magician” Choi and Nataly “Spanakopita Specialist” Aguilar.
The next two matches were a little rougher for the Lady Tritons. They lost to SDSU in 2 and USD in 3 mainly because of unforced errors and long runs against them in serve-receive. While there were a couple of rough patches here and there UCSD was not going to leave without a fight. They beat CSUF in 3 and clutched another win for the books.
A huge shout out goes to First Year setter Rachael “Pop, lock, & squat it” Robinson who did an amazing job assisting her teammates every game this tournament. We’d also love to thank all of our supporters who visited us this weekend. Your love, cheers, encouraging words and much-needed heckling (to us) were greatly appreciated! Even during tough tournaments like this one, your energy reminds us all why we love playing this sport. The Lady Tritons still have a long, exciting journey ahead and look forward to facing the challenges together.
Next weekend, the UCSD Women’s Club Volleyball Team will play at UC Davis in the 2017 Far Westerns Tournament.
