UC San Diego Continues Strong League Start with Win against Point Loma
The UC San Diego Women’s Club Soccer team faced Point Loma Nazarene this past Sunday to kick off the second game of their season. The game started off strong with junior Abby Chin scoring the first goal after taking on many defenders and dribbling her way into the goal to put UCSD up 1-0. The teams battled for the middle of the first half and a handball was called on the Tritons just outside of the 18-yard box. Point Loma took the kick and scored, tying the game 1-1. The teams continued to knock the ball around, leading to a powerful shot from junior Alaina Bujtor, that hit the cross bar and rebounded straight to Chin’s feet, who finished the job, putting the Tritons up 2-1. UC San Diego continued this momentum to finish off the first half with freshman Lizzie Blackwell breaking away from the pack of Point Loma defenders and dribbling straight to the goal to score another one for UC San Diego putting them up 3-1.
The Tritons continued to fight with purpose and accuracy during the second half and after many missed shots there finally came a third goal for Chin when she came off the bench from a hamstring injury and slotted the ball into the right corner of the goal from outside the 18 right past the keeper. As the Tritons continued to dictate the pace of the game and control the ball around the Point Loma players, they ended the game with a 4-1 win solidifying their second win of the season.
