Tritons Take Doubleheader from CSU San Marcos
The Tritons took care of business this past weekend sweeping CSU San Marcos in a Saturday doubleheader on February 27 and 28. In the first game, junior Yousef Koutnik threw a complete game giving up only four runs and holding the Cougars at bay while the offense scored 14 runs to lead to a 6 inning mercy rule. The offense was powered by a 3 for 4 game by junior Amandip Bangar who had 2 doubles, 3 RBI’s, and 2 runs scored and also a 3 for 4 game by senior Tommy Valles who had 1 double, 3 RBI’s, and 3 runs scored including the walk-off single to seal the 10-run victory. The Tritons won the game 14-4.
In the second game, junior Kevin Nieh started on the mound and was staked to a 5 run lead thanks to key hits from senior Shane Sudsbury and senior Matthew Demarest. In the fourth inning, Nieh ran into a little trouble giving up four runs to bring the Cougars within 1 run. But the Tritons responded with big hits from junior Bobby Young, senior Andrew Hinkle, and freshman Jared Vitug to lead to a three-run inning that put the Tritons up 8-4. Senior Andrew Hinkle came in for the last two innings to secure the save and lead to a Triton victory 8-4.
Your Tritons travel to University of Arizona in this upcoming weekend for their second conference series and look to keep up their winning ways going into their midseason break. Games will be at 10am and 1pm on Saturday, March 5th, and 9:45am on Sunday, March 6th, in Tucson for any fans heading out there.
