Despite Losing, Tritons Learn a lot From Season Opener
The Tritons fall to a sweep in the weekend match-up to the Long Beach State Dirtbags club baseball team. Game 1 of the series gave Long Beach a 6-2 win over the Tritons. Dylan Vargas gave the Tritons two runs with a 6th-inning double, scoring Finn Daecher and Jake Malloy. Daecher would add two hits for the Tritons along with Tyler Geratry, Kyle Young, and Brandon Imai each adding a hit as well. Roland Wenn would be the starting pitcher going 5 innings and striking out 3.
Hoping to bounce back after a tough loss, the Tritons would again fall in their second match-up to Long Beach in a gritty 7-6 defeat. This game went down to the wire in the bottom of the 7th with Long beach winning on a wild pitch. Freshman Kai Christman would help the Tritons with two hits, an RBI, and a run. The Tritons would gather more runs on Finn Daecher, Landon Lee and Nate Fischner hits as well.
To complete the Dirtbag’s sweep, the Tritons would fall in Game 3 of the weekend to Long Beach to another heartbreaking 5-4 loss. The Tritons would take the lead early, jumping out 3-0 in the 2nd on a series of hits from Kai Christman, Nick Aiken, and Nate Fichtner along with a Long Beach error. Nate Fichtner would continue his day by adding a run with a triple to score Christman. Fischer, Aiken, and Christman would each finish the game with two hits each to help the Tritons, but Long Beach would take the win with a walk-off single to score the winning run.
