The second CWPA tournament of the season, hosted by UCSD, was a success!  The placement of teams for the Southwest Division Championships (Regionals) was determined by the results of the final CWPA tournament.  With a record of 4-0 this weekend, our A team clinched 1st place seeding for Regionals. With a record of 3-2, our B team clinched 5th place seeding for Regionals.  

Our A team’s first game of the tournament was against ASU’s B team. The game started out very quick as our A team was able to score several unanswered goals in the first quarter. Throughout the rest of the game, our A team continued to stretch their lead. The final score of the game was 21-3. The second game of the tournament was against UofA. The game started, progressed, and ended similar to our A team’s first game of the tournament with a final win score of 17-4. Our A team’s third game of the tournament was against SDSU’s A team. The game began with a game-defining first quarter: the first quarter ended 4-0.  As the game progressed, our A team continued to stretch their lead, and SDSU was never able to recover.  The final score of the game was 10-1. Our A team’s fourth and final game of the weekend was against SDSU’s B team. The game started off fast, as our A team scored several unanswered goals in the first quarter. As the game progressed, our A team continued to stretch their lead.  The game concluded with a score of 23-7.

Our B team’s first game of the tournament was against ASU’s B team. Our B team played close and competitive throughout the entire game. They were finally able to pull away with a lead in the fourth quarter, and the game concluded with a UCSD win of 11-9. Our B team’s second game of the weekend was against SDSU’s B team. They played another very competitive game that ended in a W. The final score of the game was 10-8. Our B team’s third game of the tournament was against UofA. The game started out slow and defensive. However, our B team was able to gain traction and distance themselves from UofA during the second half of the game. The final score of the game was 7-4, UCSD win. Our B team’s fourth game of the weekend was against SDSU A’s team. The game was close and competitive throughout all four quarters. Unfortunately, our B team was unable to come out with a win. The game finalized with a score of 5-8. Our B team’s fifth and final game of the tournament was against USD. The game progressed similarly to our B team’s fourth game of the tournament as it was close and competitive. However, UCSD B team could not keep up with USD, and the final score of the game was 7-11, UCSD loss.  

Combined, our teams finished 7-2 for the weekend. The tournament exemplified a continuity of competitiveness and success. Our teams cannot wait to extend their dominance to the Southwest Division Championships!
