On Saturday March 4th, the UC San Diego Club Swim Team competed at the UCLA Winter Invitational against UCLA, UCI, USC, and Oregon State. With great weather and a great pool to swim in, it was destined for some incredible swims!
First off, there were some fantastic individual swims, with a special shoutout to the outstanding Angela Lee with a trifecta of 1st place finishes: the 100 Fly with 1.01.04, the 100 Free with 56.36, and the 200 Fly with 2.22.73. Kirsten Tang also had some notable wins in the 200 Backstroke with 2.21.24 and in the 100 Backstroke with 1.04.20. On the men’s side, Christopher Lo was fighting off a sickness but still managed to place 1st in the 50 Breastroke with a 28.26 and Torin Halsted smashed the 200 Fly with a 1st place finish of 2.08.09.
On the relay side, UC San Diego also did very well! The men’s team placed 2nd in the 400 Free relay headed by Tobias Oliver, Ryan Sitar, David Song, and Torin Halsted. However the women’s team performance was one for the books! Out of the three relays of the meet, UC San Diego Women’s raced their hardest to 1st place finishes in all of them! The 200 Medley relay was headed by Kirsten Tang, Vylana Trang, Angela Lee and Hanna Landry. The 200 Free relay consisted of Claire Negus, Kirsten Tang, Hanna Landry and Angela Lee.Finally, the 400 Free relay was swum by Vylana Trang, Danielle Dun, Kirsten Tang, and Angela Lee.
As a result, with such fantastic performances and races, the UC San Diego’s men’s team placed first over the other 4 teams and women’s placed 2nd leading us to 2nd overall! It was an amazing meet and performance by the Club Swim Team, and we cannot wait to come back and be even better the next time around!
