Atlantis Invitational Tournament
Our teams had a fun time at our 2nd annual Atlantis Invitational Tournament! The offseason tournament was set up bracket style: nine teams were divided into three brackets. UCSD A team finished the tournament with a 3-1 record and our B team finished the tournament with a 1-3 record.
Our A team’s first game was against UCR. They set the tone of the game in the first quarter by outscoring UCR 5-2. The tritons continued to score and maintain the scoring momentum to finish off the game with a final score of 12-6, Triton win! The A team’s second game of the tournament was against Shores. The Tritons played a competitive two-three point ballgame throughout the first three quarters. However, after an exhausting third quarter, the team got tired in the 4th quarter due to a lack of subs. The final score of the game was 5-10. Finally, A Team’s third game was scheduled against UCLA. The Tritons started the game slow; however, they were able to recover in the last three quarters of the game and come back to finish the game with a Triton win of 12-6. A team’s fourth and final game was scheduled against UCSB B. The Tritons established an early lead by scoring five unanswered goals. After our A team let in their one and only goal of the game, they spent the remainder of the game expanding their lead to finish the game with a 13-1 win.
Our B team’s first game of the tournament was scheduled against UCLA. Although the B team had a slow start, after some halftime adjustments, the Tritons got back into the game. Unfortunately, they were not able to come back in time and win the game. The final score of the game was 5-9. B team’s second game was against UCSB A. Once again, the B team started off with a slow start; however, they were able to recover in the second and third quarter. Sadly, they were unable to fully recover from their five point deficit in the first quarter. The final score of the game was 5-13. Our B team’s third game of the tournament was against UCR. This time, UCSD B team got an early lead in the game and was able to keep it through the remainder of the game. The final score of the game was 9-7, Triton win! Our B team’s fourth and final game of the tournament was against SDSU. The team played a very competitive first half with SDSU. However, due to a lack of subs, they lost momentum in the second half of the game. Unfortunately, they were unable to come out of the game with a victory, and the final score of the game was 9-18.
Overall, the tournament was a success and a great way to spend the weekend! We can’t wait to hopefully expand the tournament in the upcoming years!
