Arizona part 2: UCSD vs GCU

This past weekend, the Tritons traveled for the second time in a week to hot and sunny Phoenix, Arizona. The girls showed tremendous improvement against the Lopes this weekend from just the week prior and held their own against a notoriously difficult team. Although the game ended in a loss, 51-7 GCU, the Tritons kept their spirits high and didn’t let the loss get to them. The first and only try of the game was scored by Morgan Bundy, Captain and President of the team!

The first half started off with some great tackles and plays. Our intensity was high from the very start of the game and we weren’t going to let the size of the other team weigh us down. They were taller and bigger but we stuck to what we knew, and with some low, angled tackles we were able to get them down one on one. There was great communication between the backs and forwards and we were able to take possession away from the opposing team many times. We got very close to scoring another try through the use of many reds in a row, however, we lost possession and GCU was able to use that to their advantage. Unfortunately in the second half we got quite a few injuries and had to shift the line up around which led to some confusion, but we persisted and held the other team up as best as we could. As a nearly all-rookie team, we did great and will use the game as a learning experience.
