Tritons Sweep Titans Before Upcoming Matchup with ASU
The Tritons swept the three game-series this past weekend with CSU Fullerton. The Tritons played the 9-inning game on Saturday and sent senior Andrew Hinkle to the mound. The Titans got lucky a couple times with a bloop hit down the right field line that scored two and then utilized the short left field fence to put up four runs over the first five innings but Hinkle settled down and managed to keep them to five runs over 8 innings to put the Tritons in position to win. The offense was paced by key hits by senior Matt Davidson, junior Bobby Young, and a 5 for 5 day by senior Shane Sudsbury. The offense took control of the game in the late innings and staked senior Nathan Domico to a three–run lead for the save and won the game 8-5.
In the second game, the Tritons offense came out firing getting the first 7 men on base with nobody out scoring 4 runs. With this big lead, junior Yousef Koutnik limited most of the damage to a tune of four runs over five innings. The offense was led by senior Tommy Valles, senior Andrew Hinkle, and junior Bobby Young. Senior Jake Cloutier was called on in relief of Koutnik to get a key out in the fifth that changed the momentum of the game and in the bottom of the inning, the Tritons hit around to walk-off on sophomore Jordan Kassem’s sacrifice fly that won the game for the Tritons 15-5 on a mercy rule.
In the final game, the Tritons had to battle back to win. The starter, sophomore Andrew Campos, only got through two innings giving up four runs in the process. But the Tritons battled back behind a key outing from Jordan Kassem that kept the in the game long enough to allow the Tritons to tie the game and to take the lead in the fifth inning. The Tritons were highlighted by Andrew Hinkle 2-run homerun that tied the game and then had a key go-ahead RBI by Nathan Domico. Shane Sudsbury provided a key insurance run scored by senior Patrick Levin that allowed Domico to save the game once again.
The Tritons look to take on the ASU Sun Devils in the biggest series of the year this weekend in Tempe, AZ. For any of those interested or possibly traveling with us, we will be playing two 7-inning games at 10am and 1pm on Saturday at Dobson High School and 1 9-inning game on Sunday at 10am. Go Tritons!
