Another Successful Season Opener for UCSD Cycling
An unexpected week of inclement weather prior to race weekend shut down the highly-anticipated UCLA Road Race, but our team remained in good spirits and was still prepared to tackle Sunday's collegiate crits. And despite the poor weather and unfavorable road conditions, we managed to snag our first win of the season!
Sophomore Dennis Liang, coming off an intense block of winter training, broke away from a competitive group of Cat C riders to pull off a decisive win. Sydney Salazar also had a strong performance in the Women's Cat C field, landing her a spot on the podium in her first (and hopefully not last) collegiate road event. Dennis, after deciding that one race wasn't enough, took a stab at racing the Cat 4 open field, which landed him the number 2 spot on the podium. All our other new racers had strong showings in what was a fun introduction to racing at the collegiate level.
All in all, this was an awesome season opener for UCSD Cycling, who had another successful year after dominating this race in 2022. We look forward to being back next season!
