Extracurricular events in Indio, California left the UC San Diego Men with a slightly depleted squad, but this proved to be no issue as the Tritons put forth a convincing 3-1 win over San Diego State B. The match started as usual: UC San Diego dominance with no reflection of such on the scoreboard due to squandered chances. The first breakthrough occurred when Luca Scotzniovsky, with his newly found 18-year-old strength, bodied a defender and crossed the ball in to Jon Clausen for a tidy finish. Mere minutes later, the Tritons widened their lead. Aric Diesen capitalized on a failed clearance and tucked the ball into the corner between two pairs of Aztec legs. Firas Eid finished the scoring for the home team with a wonderful strike, from the corner spot, gently caressing the back of the net and embarrassing the opposing keeper in the process. However, UC San Diego returned from halftime a bit complacent and allowed SDSU B to nick back a goal. Defensive performances by Guhan Sundar and Jaime Ayala promptly stopped any further attacks by the visiting team. With the 3-1 victory, the Tritons earn a ticket to the National Showcase at the end of April and sit tied for first in league with a game in hand.
