5/17 - UCSB Women's Rugby Tournament
Coming in from a restful night at the hotel, UC San Diego women’s rugby arrives at the Santa Barbara rugby pitch. Three teams await them: UCLA, and two teams from Santa Barbara, who beat them in the finals of the last tournament. The field is soft and the Tritons feel nothing as they tackle, kick, and poach their way to a shutout victory against Santa Barbara A team (20-0). Next they faced the B team, which provided them another victory amongst tired limbs with the final score of 27-5. With a short recovery period of 40 minutes, they move onto their next game against UCLA with grit but tired bodies. Tritons were ahead the whole game, one breakaway at the end from UCLA leads to a 19-19 tie, putting them into the final against UCSB A. Anticipation and energy builds as the ref blows his starting whistle, and the trains go out on fire. They scored early with a shoutout try from Takeuchi, a senior in her last match, to put away a victory finishing the tournament, and their season, and first.
