5/1/25 - Tritons Power Past SDSU with 7-1 Victory in Rivalry Scrimmage
UC San Diego field hockey secured a strong 7-1 win over cross-town rivals San Diego State in a spirited scrimmage. With sharp passing and excellent team play, Tritons struck early in the first quarter with goals from Hudson Gehrke on a tip, Ally Welke, and Blark Li, who finished a cross-goal pass. UCSD’s ball movement and transfers across the field kept SDSU on the defensive, allowing the team to maintain control and build momentum throughout the game.
The scoring continued in the third quarter with goals from Emily McClung and Emily Landers, both capitalizing on well executed team plays. In the final quarter, Luisa Ayala fired in a goal from the top of the circle, and James Polashock closed out the match with the final goal. The Tritons’ chemistry and communication were on full display, making for another enjoyable and competitive match against SDSU. We're looking forward to the next time we face off with our rivals.
