9/19/2024 - UCSD Sailing Vs. GLIOR

This past weekend the UCSD Sailing Team traveled to Chicago, Illinois to compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta. On Friday, the team got an early start at the Columbia Yacht Club with our boat host David Michaels. After prepping the boat for light wind conditions, the team officially docked off. Practice ran from about 11 am to 5 pm that day. Maneuvers and strategies were smooth and we felt comfortable calling it a day.

Saturday started early with breakfast at the CYC. The weather conditions were very light this day as predicted. The first start was postponed several times, which made for some wonderful swim time in Lake Michigan but we eventually got going with amazing starts the rest of the day. The team remained consistent in our starts and race placement throughout the meet.

Our last day, Sunday, was rainy, but all boats were still in great spirits. Racing started strong, as we were second around the first windward mark. We are very grateful to have attended this event, and we continue to build our keelboat experience.
