UCSD Winter Invitational 2023
UCSD hosted their annual Winter Invitational, and it was a great success with records being shattered and many amazing swims. Both the men's and women's teams took home 1st place with UCSD coming out on top with a total of 1,789 points, finishing well ahead of 2nd-placed Arizona State University by 570.5 points.
This meet witnessed some amazing relays with all 6 relays being won by the team. New team and meet records in the following relays were set:
Bryan Liu, Eric Wang, Kai Zeger, Ryan Lee - Men's 200 Medley relay (1:35.79), team and meet record
Erin Swift, Ryan Henry, Kaitlyn Chu, Morgan Rummelhoff - Women's 200 Free Relay (1:45.37), team record
Ryan Henry, Kaitlyn Chu, Monica Rabin, Morgan Rummelhoff - Women's 400 free relay (3:55.32), team and meet record
Individually, many swimmers on both sides had some amazing swims.
On the women's side:
Kaitlyn Chu - 200 freestyle (2:04.59), 1st place
Erin Swift - 100 butterfly (1:01.01), 100 backstroke (1:01.72) - meet and team record
Marli Bannai - 50 freestyle (25.71), 100 breaststroke (1:15.59), 1st place
Yu Ishii - 50 backstroke (29.17) - meet record
On the men's side:
Kai Zeger - 50 breaststroke (26.60) - team record, 2nd place, 50 butterfly (23.11) - meet and team record
Eric Wang - 200 breaststroke (2:12.10), meet and team record
Bryan Liu - 50 backstroke (25.22), 1st place
Dylan Oquendo - 100 breaststroke (59.49), meet record
Mei Fukushima - 100 IM (55.01), meet record
Andrew Wong - 200 butterfly (2:02.35), 1st place
Seth Washabaugh - 400 IM (4:49.25), team record
Overall both sides had some amazing swims and dropped time in their events, with lifetime best times for many swimmers. The team is training very hard to compete at CCS Nationals and are looking forward to the meet!!
