On April 19th and 20th, the UCSD Sailing Team traveled to Berkeley, CA, to compete at the Mark Healey Open Fleet Race Championship. Richmond Yacht Club hosted the event, and sailing was held in the basin outside the club. Racing started promptly at 11:00 am on Saturday with winds ranging from 12-15 kts. Despite the wind and waves increasing throughout the day, our sailors raced until 5:45 pm, when the sun began to set. Each division raced 6 races on the first day. On Easter Sunday, racing was postponed until 12:30 pm due to a lack of wind. Despite a cut-off time of 3:00 pm, each division was able to complete 2 more races. The Tritons finished in 10th place overall, and the young team looks forward to improving on their performance in subsequent years. Congratulations to Mitchel Sanford '28 and Izzy De Fontaine '28 for a 2nd place finish on their 7th race, and placing 7/16 in their division.
