4/11-4/13/24 - UCSD Gymnastics Success at NAIGC Nationals
The UCSD Gymnastics team did it again at the National Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico this past weekend and had incredible gymnastics throughout the five day trip. This was the team's biggest nationals showing yet as a total of 18 members came to compete and coach at the competition. For the first time ever, we had a performance on every event in each discipline spanning from all of the men's and women’s events to tumbling and trampoline. For several of the members competing, this was their first national competition, and everyone had strong and confident routines to showcase to the judges.
Amongst the extraordinary gymnastics performed by the team, there are a few highlights to be mentioned. In the level 8 competition, Sarah Mackey qualified for event finals by placing 11th in the preliminary competition and placing 9th overall in the finals competition. Another highlight is Tom Allen placing 3rd in Xcel Silver floor and 1st in uneven bars within the men’s discipline. We would also like to recognize Tessa Gluckman and Constance Zanze who competed in the omnithon, consisting of all 6 MAG events, 4 WAG events, and 4 Trampoline and Tumbling events, totaling nearly 12 hours of competition. Constance further went on to place 4th in the pommel horse in the men’s level 7 competition. A last shoutout to Kristina Ma who made her Trampoline and Tumbling debut and placed 3rd in the New Flyers division of power tumbling.
Overall, the Tritons had phenomenal routines and made a great impact at this year's National Championships. The team has so much to be proud of, not only this meet, but the entire season leading up to it. We would like to give a special shoutout to our seniors Constance Zanze, Tom Allen, Grace Bost, Cannon Wurster, Annika Sy, Alyssa Ayan, and Elise Jonas-Delson as this was their last competition for UCSD gymnastics. The team is excited about what the next session will bring and cannot wait to make further progress and upgrades.
