UCSD Hosted First IHSA Show Back Since Pandemic!
This past weekend, the UCSD equestrian team hosted and competed in the region’s first IHSA show since 2019! The show took place at Hansen Dam Horse Park in Lake View Terrace, CA. Everyone did a phenomenal job riding in and running the show. On Saturday, the team got off to a super strong start with Brooke Berke earning a blue ribbon in the intermediate division over fences and a sixth place ribbon in the intermediate flat; Jordan Green earning fifth place over fences and second place in the flat in the same division. Isabella Anderson piloted team favorite Oliver to a second place in the limit over fences and a second in the limit flat. Team captain Molly Varozza placed second in the novice division and Athena Allen placed sixth in the pre-novice. Keiki Sunderland secured sixth place in the walk-trot division.
On Sunday, the team carried on the momentum with Jordan Green landing third place in the intermediate over fences and 6th in the intermediate flat. Megan Salek placed fourth in the limit over fences, and Isabella Anderson placed third in the limit flat. Molly Varozza placed fourth in novice and Athena Allen took first in the pre-novice.
A huge thank you to everyone who rode in the warm ups and worked jobs on the ground to ensure our show ran as smoothly as it did. Special thanks to our team coach and UCSD alum Aleena Karmally for her expert guidance and level head during the whole weekend. Also a shout out to our team captain Molly Varozza for not only riding well but also planning and running the logistics for the show; it went off without a hitch!
