    3/9/24 - Battle of the UC's

In their penultimate game of the season, UCLA and UCSD faced off on the Triton’s home turf. The Tritons played impressively, keeping possession of the ball for the majority of the game. UCSD had an explosive first half, with amazing breakaways from forwards Sophia Trujillo and Brittney Quezada-Sanchez. UCSD had great command of the field, thanks to the skills of flyhalf Megan Takeuchi and captain Sarah Overington. The defensive play throughout the game was on point, with wingers Jessie Boyne and Lizzie Spencer making solid tackles on the outside. Kelly Dory and Nikole Kron both played splendidly as fullbacks, and filled in as other positions in the back line with ease. UCSD quickly adapted to the Bruins’ counter-rucking strategy and protected the ball with textbook seals. In the second half, a poach by Alexis Truman gave Mackenzie Caldwell the chance to score an incredible try, breaking UCLA’s last ditch defense to hold the ball up. Although the game ended in a loss 33-5, the Tritons kept their energy up throughout the match and played an awesome game of rugby.
