3/3/24 - Tritons face the GCU Antelopes
On Sunday March 2nd, the Tritons went up against the GCU Antelopes in a hard fought battle. In minute one, our tritons stole the ball right from the GCU Antelopes and set the intensity of the game. From runs to scrums and everything in between, Mackenzie Caldwell consistently broke through the Antelope line, despite losing their cleat breaking half way through the second half. GCU, known for sending the ball with a kick and running on were quickly shut down by no other than Kelly Dory and Nikole Kron who both had hands of steel and caught each ball with ease and made a break for the line sending GCU in a state of frenzy. Brittney Quezada-Sanchez kept each Antelope player on their toes with fantastic footwork and finding the gaps. Without a doubt though, the Tritons defense became the iron wall for the GCU Antelopes. With not one, not two, but three try saving tackles! The first, made by Dory, happens on a break away in which Dory flew in the air to take down the GCU player. The next, Jessie Boyne stopped one of their strongest players dead in their tracks and allowed the rest of our defense to set up. And finally Adcharapon Wang was able to snatch the ankles from right under another GCU player as they were just about to score. Amazing tackles were also made by Alexis Truman, Lizzie Spencer and Sarah Overington. While the final score was 0-78, the UCSD Tritons fought to the end, displaying true dedication to their team. The Tritons won in the passion, heart and spirit and they are coming out of this stronger than ever.
