3/1/25 - Champs Tournament at UCSD
The Tritons hosted the Southwest League Championship Tournament at home this weekend, ending the 2024-2025 season with a bang.
On Saturday, the A team dominated in games against UC Irvine and ASU, winning 24-7 and 15-5 respectively. Over these two games, Elizabeth Hernandez was the standout player, scoring 8 goals throughout the day. To start the day, the B team had their best performance against SDSU B yet, but came up short with a final score of 8-9. In their second game they beat U of A 8-7, after a particularly dominant first half only allowing 1 goal from the opponent. Risa Cozza stood out on Saturday, with 3 goals in each game.
On Sunday, both teams faced very hard challenges, with the A team playing against SDSU A and the B Team playing against ASU. After an extremely close and tense championship game, SDSU A ultimately beat the A team 10-9. Shristi Bandyopdhyay had an amazing performance with 5 goals, 1 steal, and 1 field block. The B team fought hard against ASU, with Elicia Dowell scoring 3 out of the 5 goals. Goalie Beth Flynn had a great game with 3 steals, 11 blocks, and 2 penalty shot blocks!
Overall, the A team placed 2nd overall in the league, with the B team placing 6th. Although the season is over, both teams played amazing games this weekend and throughout the season, and we are excited to see what next year brings!
