Work, But No Reward
The UCSD-Blue team traveled to San Marcos for the first league tournament of the season. First, the team played USC and despite a strong revenge arc, because of the injuries they caused the team last year, the team could not pull off a win after two tight sets. The Tritons were unfazed as that was their first serious challenge during the year and there were two more games in the day. With their first loss of the season under their belt, the team tightened down and beat UCLA in the first set with incredible flying defense from all players on the court. They could not keep up the pressure and fell to UCLA in the next two sets, giving the Bruins the match. Lastly, the tritons played CSU San Marcos, and after two close losses, the team morale was low, and it showed on the court. The tritons fell in the first set to an easily beatable San Marcos team, but came back with a fury to win the second. Highlights include freshman Alayah bouncing a ball at the 5 foot line. The tritons could not hold it together for the third set and lost, going 0-3 on the day. The team drove home bitter and disappointed, but will use those feelings to work even harder in practice this week before they head to LA for another tournament and hopefully a rematch with UCLA.
