Spirits High For UCSD At The Santa Clara Tournament
This past weekend, UCSD Berserk brought the fire to Santa Clara. Undaunted by a long drive, the team played very well, ultimately breaking seed and ending with a 4-3 record.
On Saturday, the team woke up bright and early for our 8 am game. Starting with high energy would be the key to success. They won the first game in a close and competitive match. The second game was more of a challenge as they struggled against unfamiliar zone defenses and a strong A team. Despite a tough loss, they were able to stay mentally strong and won the next two games against Santa Clara and UCB. In the last game, a torrential downpour began, ending the final Saturday early.
On Sunday, they donned their damp cleats and stepped up to play Sonoma State University. Again at an early hour, the team came out strong and played tight defense to win. The second game against Occidental went poorly and ended up in a loss thanks to bad foul calls, miscommunications, and long points. However, the team pulled it all together to play SDSU for the second time. They lost the first game, 3-8, but were able to play an improved version of the game on Sunday, only losing 6-10. Despite losing the last game, the team played much better against SDSU on Sunday than Saturday, improving on offense, defense, energy and communication.
Spirits were high as UCSD left Santa Clara with a 4-3 record. They played well, had fun, and ended up breaking seed to top it all off!
