A San Diego Showcase
On this beautiful weekend, the UC San Diego Women’s Club Soccer Team faced off against local team San Diego State. The stands were packed and eagerly waiting to see their fellow Tritons play in their first home game of the quarter. And they were not disappointed, as the game was met with a strong start. A corner taken by Katie Wilkes reached midfielder Elayna Osterman, who weaved around an entire group of defenders before scoring and giving the Tritons an early lead. The Tritons continued to apply constant pressure to SDSU’s defensive line but were unable to find the back of the net. SDSU was able to create a few solid chances, forcing a sliding stop from defender Lisa Howard, and a goal line save from Allison Lee. Unfortunately, they were able to score by the end of the half, with a cross that reached their only forward in the box, bringing the game to a tie. The second half was just as thrilling as the first, with the Tritons continuing to dominate the field. The UCSD backline was able to stop any SDSU offense before they could even attempt a shot. And the Triton offense was just as impressive. Players Nadia Haghani and Cynthia Ruiz found themselves with the best opportunities but were unable to capitalize on their chances. Sadly, the game was ended early due to a serious injury, and both teams walked away with a draw.
