Triton Win in Overtime Against NAU

On Saturday, March 7th, the Lady Tritons went up against NAU for the first game of their second double header weekend. The Lady Tritons did not know what to expect from NAU being that they haven’t played against them since 2017.

The Lumberjacks came off strong as they put up the first goal on the board within the first two minutes. Freshman Gillian Husovsky held tight on the draw as she stepped up to each draw as it was the last. The first half ended with a final score of NAU 9 - UCSD 6.

The Lumberjacks came into the second half with their heads high, anticipating a win but the Lady Tritons showed up and put up a fight. Laysha Ashley and Nava Huerta started the Lady Tritons comeback. Huerta was able to score two more goals and Senior Jiyoung Yun also put in two more goals.

The final buzzer went off, ending the game with a 12-12 tie. Both teams held tight as they were mentally preparing for the Golden Goal. One goal was all that was needed for a win. The stress was high for both teams but the urge to win was higher. The Lumberjacks held the control starting at the draw but Freshman Ellen Jurgens was able to cause the most important turnover of the game. Jurgens’ hustle down the field was what the Lady Tritons needed. With a beautiful assist to Husovsky, the Lady Tritons were able to secure a 13-12 win against NAU.
