    UCSD vs. CSU SM

On Saturday, February 22, the UCSD Lady Tritons played their cross town rivals in possibly one of the most competitive games of the season. As a team that practices, rain or shine, the Lady Tritons brought that to the field on Saturday as they were greeted by periods of light rain, bright warm sunshine, and the unpredicted downpour periods throughout the warmup and game.

From the first draw, CSU San Marcos Cougars put up a hard fight. Mid-fielders Kika, Ellen and Gillian showed their power as they had fought for every draw and did not give up. It was through their continued tenacious attitudes, that allowed for the Lady Tritons to possess the ball and take numerous shots on cage.

Kendra Shae Ziegler was a strong leader on the offensive end as she controlled the plays. As the strong lefty she is, Ziegler was able to throw off the Cougar defense with shots from different angles they were not accustomed to. Once they caught on, the Cougars would send in the double on Ziegler with the hopes of a turn over. This did not stop Ziegler as she was able to secure 3 goals. In addition to Ziegler, freshmen Gillian Husovsky and Kika Funk put 3 more points on the board for the Lady Tritons.

Both teams fought a difficult battle, striving to come out with a win. Unfortunately the Lady Tritons fell short by 2 points, coming out with their first loss of the season. The final score was 6-8.
