UCSD Reaches Top 6 in NCTTA West Regionals
This West Regionals tournament was an especially intense tournament. UCSD Co Ed Varsity began by sweeping its competition in the round robin stage, defeating both University of British Columbia and Colorado Mesa University. Colorado Mesa University was a clean win of 4 matches to 0, while the match against University of British Columbia was much closer, where UCSD pulled ahead in the tie breaking doubles match.
However, in the next match, UCSD faced a newly formed team, San Jose State University. Although veteran varsity player Xuanfeng Li managed to win a match, UCSD lost 1 match to 3. Overall, Co Ed Varsity placed top 6 in West Regionals.
Women's Varsity had a tougher time, losing to both University of British Columbia and University of California, Berkeley. Although tough losses, our Varsity team has a lot to work on and improve, and will definitely do our best in future competitions!
Lastly, in men's singles, Freshmen Brandon Koh advanced from his round robin. Brandon was able to continue advancing until the Round of 16, a tough accomplishment for a freshmen athlete.
Overall, this West Regional Championship was filled with many strong athletes and new teams, but UCSD was able to pull through and secure high rankings in this tournament.
