West Coast Regionals Features Many Personal and Team Achievements
This past weekend, the UCSD Gymnastics Team headed to Arizona State University for their Regional Championships. With eleven athletes in different levels, UCSD Gymnastics had a great opportunity to show off refined routines.
On the women’s side, the developmental team brought home a win thanks to many personal bests and accomplishments. Mikayla, Bianca, and Maddie had several placements among the top five across all four events. Katherine, level 7, and Clare, level 8, both dynamically represented UCSD gymnastics with beautiful routines that demonstrated their best features on all four events: balance beam, floor, vault, and uneven bars. Linh-An and Elaine placed among the top three on many events, with the highlight of Linh-An being second on balance beam. As a whole, it was evident why UCSD Gymnastics has been gaining recognition with the NAIGC, as one of the premier gymnastics clubs on the west coast.
For the men’s team, even more accolades were accumulated. Justin showed that even beginners can be great at gymnastics with his powerful floor exercise. Philipp, Ryan, Jeremy, and Michael performed impeccable routines that resulted in a third place finish as a team. Ryan also became the back to back regional decathlon champion and finished second in the men’s all-around. Philipp placed fifth in the men’s all-around. The all-around consists of all six events: floor, vault, pommel horse, rings, parallel bars, and high bar. Considering they competed against some of the region’s best, the team could not be more proud.
As the team heads to Nationals in a few weeks, they cannot wait to get back into the gym with their new successes and perfect their routines.
